Dr. Mohler’s experience in the field of TMJ disorders led him to develop a concussion mitigating orthotic, or concussion mouth guard. After eight years of research, development and testing, Dr. Mohler was awarded a patent in 2018 for the device, which he named M8. This concussion guard places a person’s jaw in a specific neuromuscular position unique to that person, avoiding the type of concussion that afflicts 70% of those injured. The device shows great promise. In addition to fitting a number of military units with the M8 concussion guard, Dr. Mohler also fit athletes on the University of South Carolina football team. The M8 is sure to play a role in the movement to prevent concussions in athletics such as football with participants of all ages.

Dr. Mohler has spent the last five years studying all aspects of implant surgery and restoration. He completed a three-month mini-residency at UNC. This led to his joining the International Congress of Implantology. He is a fully accredited Fellow of the ICOI.

Dr. Mohler has spent the last three years as a member of Dental XP, the most advanced online training available for periodontal cosmetic surgery and advanced techniques in placement of dental implants. He completed the year long online residency through NYU. This curriculum required 178 hours study. He is continuing his studies to fulfill Dental XP’s requirements to become an accredited Master of implant surgery. This training requires six rigorous weekends of coursework and hands on surgical procedures. Dr. Mohler will complete this coursework in January 2020.

He has been involved in CAD/CAM dentistry for 20 years and has been a Level C trainer for Patterson Dental for the last 10 years, training many colleagues in advanced techniques of CEREC over the years. His greatest interest in CAD/CAM dentistry is in the development of protocols for virtually designed guided surgical procedures.

He has been involved in the development of several fully guided surgical implant stents for complete arch revision. Dr. Mohler is currently Clinical Advisor for the Ritter Dental Implant Company and is working with the newly released Ritter guided surgery system.
